MSMS's cross country team wins first meet of the season
The Mississippi School of Math and Science cross country team won first place at the Mooreville XC Invitational on Sept. 7.
Eighteen teams gathered in the cool, quiet morning at the Hussey Sod Farm, but by race time, the sun burned away the dew and reddened the necks of hundreds of runners and spectators. The Girls 5000-meter run was first, and MSMS runner Linda Arnoldus placed sixth in the 1A-3A division with a time of 28:47, followed by Nijah Troup at 10th, Skylar Nichols at 13th and Fiona Dawe at 16th.
The Boys 5000-meter run was next with Bryce Harrison placing first in the 1A-3A division with a time of 18:29, followed by Luke Bowles at third, Nicholas Bryant at sixth, Colby Brown at 10th, Matthew Dunn at 15th, Elijah Dosda at 21st, Aiden Leise at 24th, Hong Zheng at 25th and William Sutton at 29th.
"These students are dedicated to winning,” coach Brian Burnes said. “They are the best and brightest in the state, and some of them can run, too!"
The next meet is Sept. 14 in Tupelo. For a complete list of upcoming cross country meets, click here.
