2017 College View Recap

On Monday, September 18th, the Mississippi School of Mathematics and Science (MSMS) partnered with Caledonia, Columbus, West Lowndes, New Hope, Heritage, Columbus Christian, and Victory high schools to provide local students with an incredible opportunity to visit with over fifty colleges and universities in a college fair atmosphere. The event was held at the Trotter Convention Center in downtown Columbus and was the largest college recruitment event MSMS has hosted to date.

Students throughout the county had a chance to engage with a wide variety of schools to determine which programs might be the best fit for their individual needs. Students were encouraged to ask questions and gather information from as many schools as they would like. Featured schools included those from across the Magnolia state such as MSU, MUW, Ole Miss, Millsaps, Mississippi College, and the University of Southern Mississippi. Additional participants included schools throughout the nation including Auburn University, Dartmouth College, Harvey Mudd College, Pennsylvania State University, and New York University. The United States Marine Corps and the United States Military Academy also had representation at the event.

College View is an annual event that provides MSMS students with an invaluable opportunity to network with college admissions officers all under one roof. This was the first year MSMS opened the event to the broader community. MSMS students and high schoolers throughout the county left the event with a handful of college brochures and a lot to ponder about where their future might take them.

College View is an amazing and unique opportunity for students. We had almost 60 different institutions represented from across the country, so students certainly had the chance to have their questions answered in a face-to-face format. I think that this personal touch is important because so many offices for admissions are having budgets decreased and being forced to handle most of their publicity and recruiting online.
