The Traveling Science Carnival
Today the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science is conducting the first EVER Traveling Science Carnival.
Thursday morning, about 50 MSMS students piled into a school bus and began a two and a half hour ride to Betty Mae Jack Middle School in Morton, Mississippi where the Carnival is being held.
MSMS and BMJ Middle School hosted more than 300 Scott County second, third and fifth graders who were able to interact with the MSMS students and faculty members and become introduced to several fun scientific concepts.
For more than 15 years, MSMS has hosted an annual science carnival on the campus of the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. This is the first year the event has been taken outside of the Columbus area.
While Dr. McConnell has expressed interest in taking the carnival outside the Golden Triangle since he became Executive Director, he says the decision to bring it to Morton came straight from MSMS student and Scott County native, Tylicia Grove.
MSMS would like to thank the sponsors of today’s event, The Bank of Morton and Mama D’s Country Catering.
The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science is the state’s only public, residential high school specifically designed to meet the needs of the state’s most academically gifted students. For more information about MSMS, please visit www.themsms.org.
