Foundations for Higher Mathematics

Foundations for Higher Mathematics

"Foundations" is traditionally called Pre-Calculus. The current Mississippi College and Career Readiness Frameworks call it Advanced Math Plus. We chose the name "Foundations" because the class sets a foundation for both Statistics and Calculus. During Fall semester of the 2015-2016 school year, we will offer two different curricula; one will be the traditional pre-calculus curriculum that follows previously adopted state frameworks (and most private school curricula) and the other follows the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Advanced Math Plus framework.

Class length: One Semester

When is is offered: Fall and Spring semesters (the Spring semester is for students who start with Algebra II when they enter as juniors at MSMS)

Who can take it: Every junior except those who qualify exclusively for accelerated study will take Foundations.

Prerequisites: Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II

Why take this course: Foundations is a required course because it provides every student with the background knowledge to confidently pursue higher math. Along with Trigonometry, it completes the study of the content tested on the ACT.
