Becci Rubin Craig has been named the first ever recipient of the MSMS Sam and Emily O’Bryant Parent of the Year Award.
Craig is the mother of Jacob Craig, a 2015 graduate of MSMS. The award recognizes Craig’s remarkable contribution to the success of MSMS.
Upon bestowing the award, it was remarked that Craig went above and beyond the expectations the school normally has for parents. Not only was she extremely active in the MSMS parents’ organization, PLUS (Parents Lending United Support), but she also supported the school and the school’s students in a host of other ways.
The award, created just this year, was named after Sam and Emily O’Bryant, of Greenwood, Mississippi.
“I can tell you from personal experience that there are few in the state who believe in MSMS like Mrs. Emily,” said MSMS Coordinator for Alumni and Public Relations Wade Leonard. “There are many Delta students who would not have come to this school without all her hard work.”
The O’Bryants are the parents of  Aldon O’Bryant, a 2008 graduate of MSMS.
“Most parents stop being active as soon as their child graduates,” said Leonard. “Not the O’Bryants.”
Over the years the couple has hosted recruitment seminars in the Delta, coached and encouraged students applying to MSMS, and served as voracious supporters of the school both in the Delta region and the rest of the state.”
“Mr. Sam and Mrs. Emily are living embodiments of the MSMS ideals of Service and Community,” said Leonard. “The fact that the Parent of the Year award is named after the couple is a testament to that.”
