Rick Smith, Director for Admissions and School Advancement and MSMS Admissions Coordinator Sheila Horton work hard to process student applications.

Well, for the next couple weeks, the admissions office will carefully verify that each application is complete. We will attempt to contact students who are missing one or two things to ensure that there was not a problem with delivery. Because we understand that some things are not entirely in the control of applicants, we will also work with students, parents, and counselors to obtain late transcripts and letters of recommendation. However, please understand that it is ultimately the responsibility of the applicant and his or her family to ensure that the admissions office has the entire application before the applications are reviewed.

Application Review is scheduled for February 28, 2015. During this process, each application will be reviewed and scored by an independent body of reviewers. Each review panel consists of one MSMS faculty member, one professional educator, and one non-educator.

The applications will be scored between 0 and 15 points. Reviewers will evaluate your essays, school information pages, work samples, resumes, personal narratives, and teacher/counselor recommendations. It is from these criteria and these criteria alone that your application will be scored. No reviewer will see any student grades or ACT scores during this phase of the process.

You must score a nine or higher to make it to the next stage of the review process. If you score less than a nine, you will no longer be considered as a potential member of the MSMS Class of 2017. For those students, this is when the process effectively ends. If you score a nine or higher on your application, however, you will receive a letter inviting you to Interview Day, which is scheduled for March 21, 2015. All students will receive a letter either inviting them to Interview Day or explaining that they are no longer being considered.

We will not release information regarding the status of your application by phone or by email. You will have to wait to receive your letter. Letters regarding application review status are scheduled to be mailed on the Monday (March 2) immediately following Application Review.

If you have further questions about the application process, please call 1-800-553-6459 Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Or email anytime at apply@themsms.org
