For the next few weeks Mrs. Zarandona's math students will have an extra teacher on hand. Britney Sarver, a senior at the Mississippi University for Women, will be in the classroom as a new student teacher.
"This is not a normal high school, it's amazingly like college," said Sarver after her first day working with Zarandona. "The students are just great and very motivated."
Sarver, who lived in the Windber area of Pennsylvania before coming to MUW, will help teach Logic and Game Theory, Trigonometry, Statistics Survey I, and Integral Calculus.
"I really, really love math," she said. "I'm an unapologetic nerd."
After graduating from MUW in May with a degree in Math Education and a certificate in Computers, Sarver says she wants to work for the Department of Defense, teaching the children of military families.
"I grew up in a military household," she said. "Some of my best experiences were the teachers I had at the various military bases where I grew up."
Sarver will work with Mrs. Zarandona until March 18, 2015.
