In the Engineering and Teamwork class, at the Mississippi School of Math and Science summer camp for rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, campers are learning how to build and design many different things. They learn engineering by thinking outside of the box allowing the students to see the creative side of the field. In the class students are paired together to encourage teamwork, which they can take with them to help them later on in their life.

So far the students have learned how to work as a team by communicating with others and working together. By using many different materials the students try to solve problems using engineering. They have been improving their communication skills by talking to each other and using hand gestures. Mr. Zarandona, the teacher of the Engineering and Teamwork class, said “In the class we give tasks to the children to make their minds explode and then we try to contain the explosion.”
