Music and Math Rocks

At the MSMS summer camp, one of the classes taught by Dawn Barham proves that music and math do rock! The students are working in groups to write songs about different sections of math such as the order of operations, PEMDAS. The campers made instruments such as water xylophones to play the songs that they made. The students are learning to tune their creative instruments to the tune of math. To tune the instruments, the members of the class used a piano to play each pitch and then tapped different glass bottles to match the sounds. “It’s a lot of fun and different from how we imagined, this class helped us learn how we can use materials that we have in our own home to make instruments” said a group of the classes students. On Friday, the future musicians will present their music in front of nearly 100 other MSMS Summer Camp residents and parents.
