American Literature I
Taught By: Dr. Thomas Easterling
Class Length: One Semester
Topics Covered: American Literature from the colonial period to the beginning of the nineteenth century.
American Literature I teaches students to read and write critically by exposing them, initially, to literature they are almost certain never to have given a second thought: Puritans and explorers whose lives formed the ground level of American literature. We'll cover more familiar writers—Irving, Hawthorne, Melville, Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, Dickinson—as the semester progresses.
